SPORT AT ST PAUL'S

St Paul's firmly believes that Health and Physical Education is an integral part of a child's physical, mental and social development and plays an important part in Australian culture.

We employ a specialist teacher who provides lessons once a week to all year levels. We also invite development teams from a variety of different sports to come and teach our students additional skills within our P.E. lessons. Some development personnel that visit our school during the year include NRL, AFL, basketball and football development coaches.

St Paul's students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of inter-school sports during the year. Students in years 5 and 6 are offered the choice of rugby league, netball or soccer during terms 2 and 3.

St Paul's school boasts it's own rugby field, soccer field and full size netball court, which is used for training and matches.

In term 2 we hold our annual athletics and cross country carnivals. The athletics carnival is held on our own Olympic sized running track with designated areas for field events. The carnival is an exciting day where competitors from all sporting houses compete in track and field events.

From our athletics carnival, students are selected for representative teams if they achieve the qualifying time or distance for a specific event. Training for our cross country event commences well in advance to give students every chance for selection for the district sides.

We have a close affiliation with the local Gracemere Little Athletic Club that meet every Sunday on our St Paul's Oval. The field enables children to compete in track events as well as field evens such as long jump, triple jump, shot put, disc, javelin and high jump.

St Paul's also participates in the Catholic Schools' Challenge Cup every year. The Challenge Cup is a three day carnival where Year 6 students compete in rugby league and netball against other students from Rockhampton Catholic Schools  in the diocese. It is a fun, family orientated carnival which is enjoyed by those who attend.
